 We define a facet surface of a homology class in an irreducible 3-manifold
  as a maximal collection of Thurston norm minimizing surfaces and the guts
  of this homology class as the nontrivial parts in the sutured decompositi
 on of the 3-manifold along a facet surface. We prove that the guts do not 
 depend on the selection of the facet surfaces and are invariant in the sam
 e Thurston cone under some condition. Moreover\, the rank of the restricti
 on map of the second relative homology from the manifold to the guts is ex
 actly the codimension of the Thurston cone for most of the homology classe
 s\, and the guts of different homology classes are related by some sutured
  decomposition. This is a joint work with Ian Agol.\n

 iven number of cusps has been found for 0\,1\,2\,4 cusps\, while the minim
 al volume of 3-cusped orientable hyperbolic manifolds remains unknown. By 
 using guts in sutured manifolds and pared manifolds\, we are able to show 
 that for an orientable hyperbolic 3-manifold with 3 cusps such that every 
 second homology class is libroid\, its volume is at least $5.49\\ldots = 6
