DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://stable.researchseminars.org/talk/Activ

  A speculation into the effects of reflection(s)\, duplication and symmetr
 y through Active Inference</a>\nby Shanna Dobson\, Sonia de Jager (Univers
 ity of California\, Riverside\; ArtCenter College of Design) as part of Ac
 tive Inference Livestreams\n\n\nAbstract\nThe concept and phenomenon of re
 flection\, when highly abstractly posited\, can be said to abound across d
 omains. To name a few\, in mathematics and computation: symmetries\, equiv
 alence\, completeness\; in physics: reversibility\, all manner of map-terr
 itory considerations\; in evolutionary biology: duplication and reproducti
 on\, the organism as a model of the environment\; in philosophy: reflexivi
 ty\, 場所\, universal/particular transits\, difference and repetition\;
 in (psycho)linguistics: reference\, redundancy\, reiteration\, rhyme\; in
 artistic practice\; the (question of the) imitation of ‘life’\; and th
 e list may go on. In this presentation we will explore aspects of reflecti
 on\, through a series of examples from the histories of science and art\,
 as well as trace some of their philosophical exposures\, in an effort to g
 round or naturalize them as actively inferential phenomena.\n
