 5/">Reductions of certain semi-stable Galois representations</a>\nby John
Bergdall (Bryn Mawr) as part of Boston University Number Theory Seminar\n\
n\nAbstract\nThe L-invariant is an important p-adic invariant attached to
certain newforms of level Np where N is co-prime to p. They arise most cle
arly from the study of local p-adic Galois representations\, but they infl
uence global phenomena such as trivial zeros of p-adic L-functions and p-a
dic families. This talk will focus on how the L-invariant\, which we will
describe\, influences the local Galois representation modulo p. History of
the general problem of calculating reductions will be provided. The main
result is an exact description of the local mod p representation when the
L-invariant is sufficiently large in norm. One novel feature of our work i
s that it allows for unbounded weights\, whereas prior descriptions were l
imited to weight at most p. This is joint work with Brandon Levin and Tong
  Liu.\n

11/">Integral points in families of elliptic curves</a>\nby Stephanie Chan
(University of Michigan) as part of Boston University Number Theory Semin
ar\n\n\nAbstract\nGiven an elliptic curve over a number field with its Wei
erstrass model\, we can study the integral points on the curve. Taking an
infinite family of elliptic curves and imposing some ordering\, we may ask
how often a curve has an integral point and how many integral points ther
e are on average. We expect that elliptic curves with any non-trivial inte
gral points are generally very sparse. In certain quadratic and cubic twis
t families\, we prove that almost all curves contain no non-trivial integr
 al points.\n\nSee http://math.bu.edu/research/algebra/seminar.html\n

12/">A residue map and a Poisson kernel for $GL_3$</a>\nby Peter Gräf (BU
) as part of Boston University Number Theory Seminar\n\n\nAbstract\nIn the
classical theory of modular and automorphic forms it has proven to be ver
y useful to realize spaces of such forms in more combinatorial or algebrai
c ways. A famous instance of such a realization is the relationship betwee
n classical modular forms and modular symbols. In this talk\, I will discu
ss a non-archimedean analogue of this construction\, namely the relationsh
ip between certain holomorphic discrete series representations on the Drin
feld period domain and spaces of harmonic cocycles on the Bruhat-Tits buil
ding for the group $GL_3$ over a non-archimedean local field of any charac
teristic. The main novelty is that we allow non-trivial coefficients in a
situation beyond the well-known theory for $GL_2$\, which extends works of
Schneider and Teitelbaum. I will explain how to construct a residue map a
nd a Poisson kernel in this situation. Moreover\, I will explain how the e
xistence of the relevant boundary distributions follows from a conjectural
non-criticality statement for certain (generalized) automorphic forms.\n
