 lished book "Introduction to Quantum Algorithms"\, referenced in the link.
 \n\nWe will schedule 6 talks in the Fall and 7 in the Spring\, including t
 his one\, each devoted to approximately 20 pages of the book. It is strong
 ly advised that all participants\, not only the speaker\, read the assigne
 d material in advance\, as we may need to skip some parts (note also that 
 the book contains many typos).\n\nFall meetings every other Tuesdays 10-11
  until November 18.\nSpring meetings every other week (day and time TBA)\,
  starting the week of January 12\, running through the week of April 20.\n

 tract: This presentation explores new representations of the mathematical 
 constant $\\log 2$ using polynomial continued fractions. Building on previ
 ous work in continued fraction theory\, we investigate a conjecture by Zhu
  He which proposes a specific polynomial continued fraction for $\\log 2$.
  We will demonstrate the validity of this conjecture and introduce an infi
 nite family of new polynomial continued fractions for $\\log 2$.\n\n******

 plete Classification of Quadratic Irrationals with Period Two\n\nAbstract:
  This talk presents a full classification of quadratic irrationals whose c
 ontinued fraction expansions have period length two. While it is known tha
 t the continued fraction of N is periodic\, the distribution of period len
 gths is less understood. We establish precise conditions for the period-tw
 o case and illustrate the results with numerical examples.\n\n~~~Note that
  this talk is $\\mathbf{not}$ part of the reading seminar on quantum algor
 ithms.~~~\n\nNurdaulet Shynarbek is a PhD candidate in Mathematics and Sta
 tistics at SDU University\, where his research focuses on the polynomial c
 ontinued fraction representations of mathematical constants. He is particu
 larly interested in the algorithms developed by the Ramanujan Machine and 
 their applications in discovering new mathematical formulas. A Senior Lect
 urer at Narkhoz University \, Nurdaulet has a background in numerical meth
 ods and algorithmic development. His work is part of a broader effort to a
 dvance computational approaches in pure mathematics.\n\nAlibek Orynbassar 
 is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pedagogy of Natural Sciences at 
 SDU University in Kaskelen\, Kazakhstan\, a position he has held since Jul
 y 2023. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Mathematics and Natural Sciences
  at SDU.\n\nHe earned both his Master’s (2017) and Bachelor’s (2014) d
 egrees in Mathematics and Natural Sciences from SDU. From July 2022 to Jun
 e 2023\, he was a Visiting Scholar at Teachers College\, Columbia Universi
 ty\, where he expanded his expertise in mathematics education and research
 .\n\nPrior to his current role\, he served as Mathematics Program Coordina
 tor in the Department of Education at SDU (2020–2022) and as Senior Lect
 urer (2017–2022). Earlier in his career\, he taught mathematics in secon
 dary schools (2013–2017)\, where he prepared students for mathematics Ol
 ympiads. He has also contributed as a jury member for regional school math
 ematics Olympiads and scientific project competitions (2018–2020).\n
