 ordie Williamson and MC\nAdam Spencer.  \n\nArtificial intelligence is one
  of the defining technologies of the 21st century.  Over\nthe last 15 year
 s\, machine learning models have learnt to perform tasks that humans find\
 neasy\, such as speech and image recognition.  However many problems are s
 till out of the\nreach of AI\, including most unsolved problems in pure ma
 thematics.  \n\nHear from University of Sydney Professor of Mathematics Ge
 ordie Williamson as he\nexplores how machine learning can help with the in
 tuitive aspects of mathematical\nresearch.  Geordie recently carried out o
 ne of the first applications of AI in pure\nmathematics\, in collaboration
  with Oxford University mathematicians and DeepMind\, the AI\ncompany of A
 lphaGo fame.  The results were published in the prestigious scientific\njo
 urnal Nature in December 2021.  \n\nGeordie and the DeepMind team used mac
 hine learning models to uncover surprising\npatterns in mathematical objec
 ts\, leading to progress on problems that have puzzled\nmathematicians for
  decades.  \n\nMathematician and MC Adam Spencer will host this Sydney Ide
