DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://stable.researchseminars.org/talk/WAC/1
/">Sets inducing large additive doubling</a>\nby Dmitrii Zhelezov (Rényi
Institute) as part of Webinar in Additive Combinatorics\n\n\nAbstract\nRep
hrasing the celebrated Freiman lemma in additive combinatorics\, one can s
how that a finite set in Z^d containing a K-dimensional simplex has additi
ve doubling at least ~K. We will discuss a novel framework for studying ho
w such induced doubling can be inherited from a more general class of mult
i-dimensional subsets. It turns out that subsets of so-called quasi-cubes
induce large doubling no matter the dimension of the ambient set. Time per
mitting\, we will discuss how it allows to deduce a structural theorem for
sets with polynomially large additive doubling and an application to the
”few products\, many sums” problem of Bourgain and Chang.\nThis is joi
 nt work with I.Ruzsa\, D. Matlosci\, G. Shakan and D. Palvölgyi\n

as part of Webinar in Additive Combinatorics\n\n\nAbstract\nWe improve the
upper bound for diagonal Ramsey numbers to\n\\[\nR(k+1\,k+1)\\le\\exp(-c(
 \\log k)^2)\\binom{2k}{k}\n\\]\nfor $k\\ge 3$. To do so\, we build on a qu
asirandomness and induction framework for Ramsey numbers introduced by Tho
mason and extended by Conlon\, demonstrating optimal ``effective quasirand
omness'' results about convergence of graphs. This optimality represents a
  natural barrier to improvement.\n

(UBC) as part of Webinar in Additive Combinatorics\n\n\nAbstract\nIn their
seminal paper Erdős and Szemerédi formulated conjectures on the size of
sum set and product set of integers. The strongest form of their conjectu
re is about sums and products along the edges of a graph\, when we conside
r sums and products of some pairs only. With Noga Alon and Imre Ruzsa we s

oulos (Montreal) as part of Webinar in Additive Combinatorics\n\n\nAbstrac
t\nAbstract: Let $\\mathcal{N}$ be a set of natural numbers and let us con
sider all monic polynomials of degree $n$ whose coefficients are in $\\mat
hcal{N}$. What are the odds that a polynomial chosen uniformly at random f
rom this set is irreducible? Moreover\, what can we say about the distribu
tion of its Galois group? I will present some recent results\, joint with
Lior Bary-Soroker and Gady Kozma\, that show that if $\\mathcal{N}$ is not
too sparse\, then such random polynomials are highly likely to be irreduc
ible and have very large Galois group. The proofs uses a fun mixture of id
eas from sieve methods\, the arithmetic of polynomials over finite fields\
, primes with restricted digits\, Galois theory and group theory.\n

interesting paper\, Gowers and Long discussed binary operations * on finit

Nikos Frantzikinakis (Crete) as part of Webinar in Additive Combinatorics\
n\n\nAbstract\nThe Liouville function is a multiplicative function that en
codes important information related to distributional properties of the pr
ime numbers. A conjecture of Chowla states that the values of the Liouvill
e function fluctuate between plus and minus in such a random way\, that al
l sign patterns of a given length appear with the same frequency. The Chow
la conjecture remains largely open and in this talk we will see how ergodi
c theory combined with some feedback from number theory allows us to estab
lish two variants of this conjecture. Key to our approach is an in-depth s
tudy of measure preserving systems that are naturally associated with the
Liouville function. The talk is based on joint work with Bernard Host.\n

DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://stable.researchseminars.org/talk/WAC/5
9/">Product sets of arithmetic progressions</a>\nby Max Wenqiang Xu (Stanf
ord) as part of Webinar in Additive Combinatorics\n\n\nAbstract\nWe prove
that the size of the product set of any finite arithmetic progression A in
integers of size N is at least N^{2}/(log N)^{c+o(1)}\, where c=1-(1+logl
og 2)/(log 2). This matches the bound in the celebrated Erdos multiplicat
ion table problem\, up to a factor of (log N)^{o(1)} and thus confirms a c
onjecture of Elekes and Ruzsa.\nIf instead A is relaxed to be a subset of
a finite arithmetic progression in integers with positive constant density
\, we prove that the size of the product set is at least N^{2}/(log N)^{2l
og2-1 + o(1)}. This solves the typical case of another conjecture of Eleke
s and Ruzsa on the size of the product set of a set A whose sum set is of
size O(|A|).This is joint work with Yunkun Zhou.\n
