DESCRIPTION:Title: <a href="https://stable.researchseminars.org/talk/RAG/1
 /">Bounding the Vapnik-Chervonenkis density of definable families</a>\nby
Saugata Basu (Purdue) as part of Real Geometry\n\n\nAbstract\nThe notion o
 f Vapnik-Chervonenkis density of a set system is a concept that arose\nmor
e-or-less simultaneously in probability theory\, in model theory\, and in
combinatorics.\nAfter giving some basic definitions and history\, I will s
urvey some old and new results on obtaining\ntight quantitative bounds on
the VC-density of definable families in various structures and\nexplain a
common topological underpinning in the proofs of these results. The ``new
result'' is a tight\nbound on the VC-density of definable families over al
gebraically closed valued fields\nand is joint work with Deepam Patel. The
proof of the new result relies heavily in part on\nmodel-theoretic result
s of Hrushovski and Loeser on stable dominated types.\n\nReferences.\n\n1.
